Eveready Industries India Ltd said on Wednesday, April 22, it has commissioned an alkaline battery manufacturing facility in Jammu. The greenfield plant, inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has been set up with an investment of around ₹200 crore.
The facility has an installed capacity of 456 million units annually, with a peak production capacity of about 360 million alkaline batteries. The company said the plant will help meet rising demand for high-performance batteries, reduce import dependence, and strengthen supply chain resilience, while also improving margin efficiencies.
Commenting on the development, CEO Anirban Banerjee said the commissioning of the facility marks a significant milestone for the company and India’s evolving energy landscape, as demand rises for high-performance, power-intensive devices. He added that the plant will support the company’s focus on building future-ready, premium energy solutions while contributing to the country’s self-reliance in manufacturing.
Eveready added that the new unit will support both domestic and export markets, including opportunities in white labelling, as it looks to expand its presence in the premium alkaline segment. The company is also targeting a larger global footprint as demand rises for advanced power solutions.
The project is expected to generate over 500 direct and indirect jobs in the region at full capacity, contributing to local economic growth. The company said the facility will support its strategy of premiumisation and innovation while aligning with India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
