Farmer gets 1 paisa instead of ₹2,000 PM-KISAN instalment: Here’s what went wrong

A farmer in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district was left bewildered after receiving a mobile message stating that just 1 paisa had been credited to her account under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, instead of the regular ₹2,000 instalment.

The state Agriculture Department on Tuesday, June 30, clarified that the message was triggered due to a technical glitch and said the beneficiary’s account had been credited with the full instalment.

The incident came to light after Khemraj Girepunje, son of Lakshmibai Girepunje, a 65-year-old farmer from Jevanala village in Bhandara district, told news channels that the family was shocked to receive an SMS indicating a credit of ₹0.01 under the PM-Kisan scheme.

He said the family was counting on the financial assistance to purchase seeds and fertilisers ahead of the ongoing kharif sowing season, making the message particularly distressing.

Responding to the incident, Bhandara District Agriculture Officer Sangita Mane said the SMS appeared to have been generated due to a technical error, reported PTI. She added that official records showed the beneficiary had received the full ₹2,000 instalment in her bank account and that there was no issue with the payment.
