NEW DELHI: Sonam Wangchuk on Monday said he was “feeling very fine” and requested Safdarjung Hospital to allow him to leave temporarily so he could join the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Chalo Sansad’ march to Parliament.His supporters questioned why restrictions remained if he was not under detention.Sharing a copy of Wangchuk’s handwritten letter on X, the activist’s team said, “Sonam Wangchuk is trying hard to see you all! Just submitted a letter to the hospital as his health is good and they claim he is not in detention. So why the restrictions?”In the letter addressed to the hospital, Wangchuk wrote: “This is to state that I am feeling very fine today and my health parameters are also showing as quite normal. Hence I request you to kindly allow me to leave the hospital, even if temporarily, so that I can join the March to the Parliament — Sansad Chalo — this morning.”The latest appeal comes a day after Wangchuk said he would end his indefinite hunger strike if the Centre accepted responsibility for alleged failures in the education system, including paper leaks, or if political leaders assured him that the issue would be raised in Parliament.Posting from Safdarjung Hospital, where he was shifted on the 21st day of fasting, Wangchuk described his stay as an “illegal detention” and claimed that his “freedom of movement, speech and communication” had been restricted.Meanwhile, protesters participating in the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march clashed with police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel near Jantar Mantar after attempting to march towards Parliament despite prohibitory orders in force.Police used lathis to disperse the crowd and prevent the march from proceeding.Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday after his health deteriorated during his indefinite hunger strike.The Delhi high court later declined to interfere with the Centre’s decision to hospitalise him, observing that doctors were monitoring his condition.
