The insurer is targeting Indians travelling overseas for leisure, business, education and employment.
The move comes as outbound travel from India continues to grow, while travel insurance remains relatively underpenetrated.
The policy covers medical emergencies as well as several travel-related risks. Medical coverage includes hospitalisation, outpatient treatment, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation of mortal remains, dental emergencies and personal accident benefits. It also provides cover for certain life-threatening emergencies related to pre-existing medical conditions, according to the company.
The travel component covers risks such as trip cancellation or interruption, flight delays, missed connections, loss or delay of checked baggage, loss of passport and personal liability. Other benefits include protection related to hijack distress, cancelled hotel or airline bookings, compassionate visits and the return of minor children.
The policy is being offered through destination-specific plans covering the US and Canada, Europe, Asia and other regions.
Galaxy Health Insurance has partnered with Europ Assistance India for overseas assistance. The arrangement includes access to services such as cashless hospitalisation, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation and round-the-clock travel assistance.
The insurer said the product will initially be distributed through its agents and digital channels. It is also looking to partner with travel platforms and corporate travel providers.According to G Srinivasan, Managing Director and CEO, Galaxy Health Insurance, rising overseas healthcare costs, flight disruptions, extreme weather events and geopolitical risks have increased the need for travel protection.
The company expects travel insurance to become a larger contributor to its retail business in the coming years.
