The Kolkata-based shipbuilder said the elevation reflects its financial performance, operational efficiency and contribution to national security.
Navratna status gives public sector enterprises greater financial autonomy and allows them to undertake larger investments and expand operations.
“The conferment of Navratna status is a defining moment in GRSE’s journey and a matter of immense pride for every member of the GRSE family,” Chairman and Managing Director Commodore PR Hari (Retd) said.
He added that the status would help the company pursue strategic opportunities, strengthen self-reliance in defence manufacturing and enhance its global competitiveness.
GRSE’s revenue from operations rose to ₹7,002 crore in FY26 from ₹1,754 crore in FY22, while profit after tax increased to ₹748 crore from ₹190 crore during the same period. the filing stated.
The company delivered eight warships in FY26, including three vessels on a single day on March 30. These included the advanced guided-missile frigate Dunagiri, survey vessel Sanshodhak and anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft Agray.
GRSE is expanding capacity through brownfield and greenfield projects. The company has built more than 800 marine platforms and delivered 118 warships to the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and friendly foreign countries. It is also building 12 multi-purpose vessels for a German client and is expanding into green and autonomous vessels.
