Hero Moto to invest 3,200 crore in Andhra Pradesh


NEW DELHI: Hero MotoCorp is set to invest Rs 3,200 crore in Andhra Pradesh over the next three to five years as India’s largest two-wheeler maker ramps up manufacturing, strengthens its global supply chain and expands beyond vehicle production into higher-margin businesses such as accessories and merchandising.The investment includes Rs 750 crore for the company’s second Global Parts Centre (GPC 2.0) at its Tirupati facility, which will support domestic operations while supplying spare parts and completely knocked down (CKD) kits to overseas markets. The company expects the new facility to be operational within two years. Hero also plans to significantly expand production capacity at its Tirupati plant, increasing annual output from about six lakh units to between 12 lakh and 15 lakh units. The expansion is expected to create around 4,000 jobs. The facility currently manufactures both internal combustion engine motorcycles and scooters as well as the company’s electric vehicles.Pawan Munjal, executive chairman, Hero MotoCorp said the expansion reflects the company’s long-term confidence in AP.
