ideaForge bags Survey of India order for Q6 V2 drones

Drone maker ideaForge Technology received an order from the Survey of India (SOI) on Tuesday, October 13, for its Q6 V2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to support the government agency’s surveying and mapping operations.

The drones are expected to help the agency collect high-quality aerial and geospatial data across varied terrains and project environments, according to ideaForge.

The Q6 V2 is a survey-grade UAV designed for extensive area coverage, enabling large-scale mapping projects to be completed faster and more efficiently.

According to ideaForge, the drone is a lightweight, high-endurance platform with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities. Designed and developed entirely in India, it is equipped with advanced mapping payloads, autonomous navigation and encrypted communication systems.

The company said the drone can be deployed in under 10 minutes. The platform is also DFCA-certified and designed for geospatial intelligence, mapping and surveying applications.

Somil Gautam, Associate Director – Enterprise Business at ideaForge Technology, said “The adoption of UAVs in geospatial applications is creating a more efficient way to collect the aerial data that informs how we plan, develop, and manage our physical environment.”

He said the company’s engagement with the Survey of India reflected the growing relevance of indigenous UAV technology in specialised applications where reliable and timely data is important. Gautam also highlighted the potential for drone-enabled mapping and geospatial intelligence across government and enterprise applications.

According to the company, UAVs can complement conventional survey methods by improving the speed, coverage and frequency of data collection and processing, particularly across large and difficult-to-access areas.
