India vs South Korea Highlights, Asian Games Hockey: Dilpreet, Abhishek score brace each as IND register 8-2 win

India win the contest 8-2 and register their biggest-ever win over South Korea in the Asian Games. Three wins in a row for Harmanpreet Singh’s team. Japan up next on Saturday.

Wow! What play! Korea are slowly and steadily coming into their own. Casual defence from the Indian camp and Korea capitalises. KIM YongBok runs away with the ball and goes for a shot, beating the goalkeeper. This is first goal in the Asian Games.

South Korea’s Jihun Yang doesn’t go for a drag flick and choses to go for a flat shot. The referee then calls for a penalty stroke after he sees a Jarmanpreet Singh back stick. India reviews and overturns the decision. Korea get another penalty corner but the shot doesn’t result in any goal.

The action is underway in the fourth and final quarter. India have a lead of six goals and it’s all about India not conceding another goal as Korea got their opening one against the run of play and Harmanpreet Singh’s team’s defence was caught off guard.

The third quarter is done and dusted. Only 15 minutes of action is remaining in India’s third Pool A fixture.

Shilanand Lakra, Sukhjeet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Abhishek and Dilpreet Singh have scored a goal each so far. It seemed that the fifth goal was scored by Dilpreet, but it was eventually awarded to Sukhjeet. India are dominating the contest.

Dilpreet is right there at the right spot. No Korean defender is near him, and he just deflects the ball into the net for India’s fifth goal. Dilpreet gets his second and India equal their biggest win over South Korea in the Asian Games.

Amit Rohidas is now back on the park. He was shown a green card for a challenge from behind. Immediately after coming in, he gets the ball, but the Korean defence is up to the challenge, and he isn’t allowed to make any sort of play.

What skill from Lakhra! He almost got the fifth for India but was denied by the goalpost. Korea try to pounce and form a quick attack from the right end, but once again, the ball is lost. However, India too, give the ball away and Korea are now trying to maintain possession through small passes.

The second quarter begins! And the story is the same. India are running the opponent ragged. Short passes. Long passes. India are pulling out everything in their arsenal as the Korean defence looks clueless.

And with this, the first quarter comes to an end. The Korean side has been unable to form any sort of attack. India are running away with the game. India dominated possession in the first quarter, keeping the ballfor 57 per cent of the time. There was just one penalty corner, and Harmanpreet scored one goal through that.

Hardik was once again right there at the spot and his pass to the right wing landed in the box, and eventually Dilpreet cracked it into the net.

The Korean defence is clearly rattled, and Indian players are getting ample space to move the ball around. The attacks are piling, and India look within touching distance of getting the second goal.

Shilanand Lakra opens the scoring for India, and just like that, Harmanpreet’s team takes a 1-0 lead in the Pool A fixture. The credit also goes to Hardik who played a long aerial ball and Lakhra was quick to pounce.
