Indian-origin Texas teen Reeyan Mistry takes his two grandmothers to prom.

Two grandmothers attended their first prom ever at a small private school in Addison, Texas as Reeyan Mistry, the high school senior, did not have to think twice over whom he would ask to be his prom date. It was his Ba and Ma, the two grandmothers from Africa and India. Clad in sarees, the two women posed for photos with Mistry as the school celebrated the decision to break away from the tradition, WFAA reported. The Westwood school this year had only 17 seniors in the graduating class — 12 girls and five boys. Reeyan said his decision was simple though emotional as he wanted to take his two grandmothers who shaped his life. But Mistry’s mother remembered a childhood promise that Reeyan actually made. Reeyan’s mother Trisha Mistry said as a child, Reeyan used to tell his grandmothers that he would take them to the prom dance.“They got their hair done, makeup, nails done. I felt like I have two daughters,” Trisha told WFAA about the preparations that the two grandmothers undertook to attend the important day of Reeyan’s life.“He’s not only raised by me, he’s raised by a village. The days I couldn’t watch them, [his grandmas] were there,” said Trisha.“I’m having fun with my grandmas. This is my way of expressing my gratitude for everything my grandmas did for me,” Reeyan said.Head of School Heather Lourcey appreciated how Reeyan thought and said: “We definitely could use more Reeyans.”Reeyan’s parents Jignesh ‘Jay’ Mistry and Trisha Mistry, also attended their son’s prom event.
