Jelly Roll has opened up about how his dramatic weight loss transformation reshaped nearly every facet of his life, describing himself as having become “a whole different human” in the process. The 41-year-old country star, born Jason DeFord, reflected on the changes he experienced, sharing how shedding 300lbs had made him a better father and a more present figure in his children’s lives.During an interview with Extra earlier this year, Jelly Roll said, “I’ve gotten closer to God. I’ve gotten closer to myself. I’m a better father. I’m more present with my children. You should see it, dude. I mean, I’m coaching my son’s basketball team this year.”

He reflected on how different life felt at his heaviest. “Dude, when you’re 550 lbs, you wonder if they have a seat big enough for you, you know what I mean? You definitely don’t think about coaching a team. You wonder if there’s a bench you can sit on, you know? So, it’s like for God to just even make that big of a difference and to have the weight off, I’m a whole different human.”

The reflections on his personal growth come amid reports that Jelly Roll has filed for divorce from his wife, Alisa DeFord, better known publicly as Bunnie Xo. The pair married in August 2016, though reports have also surfaced alleging that Jelly Roll fathered a son with a different woman approximately one week before the ceremony.

Before their separation, Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo had publicly expressed their intention to grow their family through IVF. Speaking to Access Hollywood at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards on May 8, Jelly Roll confirmed they were actively pursuing the process. “For all of our friends out there who have been supporting and praying for us that know the journey we are on, y’all know how hard it is. Thanks for praying for us. We’re still trying,” he said.
