Jio IPO will attract a lot of interest from global, domestic markets: Chairman Akash Ambani

Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani believes that the upcoming Initial Public Offering of Jio Platforms will be attracting a lot of interest from global and domestic markets.

“We are working very hard towards it,” Ambani spoke exclusively to CNBC-TV18 on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress in New Delhi on Thursday, October 8.

When asked whether Jio Platforms will be the biggest IPO in Indian history, Ambani said he is “hopeful” about it.

Jio Platforms, according to reports, is seeking a valuation of ₹11 lakh crore as part of its IPO, to which, brokerage firm Motilal Oswal noted that the offering could result in a re-rating not just for Reliance Industries, but for the other telecom incumbent Bharti Airtel as well.

With the subscriber base for Jio crossing the 50 crore mark, Akash Ambani believes that the drive for the company is to give “extreme value” to customers in two forms.

“We want to democratise the technology to the last level of India,” he said. “Whether it be through new services and really increase their ability to consume digital services to next level,” the Reliance Jio Chairman added.

The telecom sector has been in focus this week after Bharti Airtel increased the tariff of its postpaid plan by ₹50 across the board. Past precedents indicate that when one operator raises tariffs, others follow suit. So far, there has been no announcement on this regard from either Jio or Vodafone Idea.”What we want to do is ensure that we are giving disruptive value to our consumers, and we’ve always stood for the mission of inclusivity, and that comes from great affordability, and that’s what we’ll continue to do,” Ambani said when asked about the tariff subject.
