JioHotstar begins operatons in UK, Canada and Singapore, introduces quarterly subscription plans


The streaming service JioHotstar, owned by JioStar, has officially commenced operations in the UK, Canada, and Singapore, thereby broadening its international presence beyond India and aiming to engage South Asian diaspora audiences in these regions.

As part of its launch, JioHotstar will incorporate interactive features for selected programmes. Audiences in the UK, Canada, and Singapore will be able to engage with these features.

Subscribers in Canada and the UK will also have access to a 24/7 live feed of the show, while Canadian viewers can watch the Hindi version of flagship shows before it airs on television.

Additionally, the platform will feature content from JioStar’s television channels, including Star Plus, Colours, Star Vijay, Asianet, Star Jalsha, and Star Pravah. In Canada and Singapore, certain shows will be accessible before their television premiere, while viewers in the UK will be able to watch them concurrently with TV broadcasts.

The service will be accessible on mobile devices and connected televisions via app stores in the three countries.

As per a report from Moneycontrol, the platform is set to provide over 160,000 hours of content in more than 12 Asian languages, featuring original series, films, television shows, reality programming, children’s content, and anime. JioHotstar has announced its intention to introduce an additional 30,000 hours of new content each year.

The report further quoted Amit Malhotra, Head of International Business at JioStar, who commented on the launch, stating that the company recognises an opportunity to serve both South Asian audiences abroad and global viewers who are interested in diverse narratives and cultures.This international expansion represents JioHotstar’s latest initiative to enhance its global streaming business following the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar under the JioStar umbrella.
