While fans were ecstatic to see the duo team up again after Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, a cryptic teaser poster featuring a weapon resembling Lord Murugan’s Vel (spear) sent speculation into overdrive. The excitement quickly turned into a heated cultural debate across social media after producer S. Naga Vamsi shared the poster with a caption claiming the protagonist was “Born in the North… Shaped in the Centre… Worshipped in the South.” This tagline drew intense flak from devotees and Tamil netizens, who strongly object to the northern attribution of the ancient deity revered deeply as Tamil Kadavul (the God of Tamils).
Producer’s social media post triggers online debate
Soon after the announcement, a social media post by producer S. Naga Vamsi sparked widespread debate. Sharing the film’s poster on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Born in the North… Shaped in the Centre… Worshipped in the South… Now becoming a universal epic.” Since many viewers had already linked the poster to Lord Murugan, the phrase “Born in the North” quickly became the centre of discussion. This raised questions among netizens, who thought that this might alter the story of the god. This message went viral on social media, attracting both criticism and support from various sections of the internet.
Social media divided over the interpretation
Soon, the comments section was filled with varied opinions. Many devotees of Lord Murugan and several Tamil users expressed their opposition, stating that Murugan has been associated with Tamil heritage in Tamil literary works and cultural traditions for a long time.
