The team behind the Malayalam horror-comedy ‘Maharaja Hostel’ has spoken out against what they describe as a negative campaign targeting the film on social media. In a video shared on Instagram, the film’s newcomers appealed to audiences to watch the movie in theatres before forming an opinion. The film stars Akhil NRD, Akhil Shah, Sharath Babu and Sajin Cherukayil in key roles. Directed by Charu Wakan, ‘Maharaja Hostel’ blends horror and comedy.
Actors request honest reviews from audiences
In the video, the cast acknowledged that they are newcomers and admitted that there may be shortcomings in their performances. The actors said, “Our film has been receiving a very good positive response. At the same time we’re seeing a lot of negativity on social media. This is a small film, and all of us are acting in a movie for the first time. Since we’re newcomers, there will naturally be mistakes from our side. We only ask that you watch the film first and then share your honest review.”The team added, “It’s a small production house and a low-budget film so there are certain limitations. As first-time actors, you may notice flaws in our performances. Even with limited resources, the producers have made the film to the best of their ability. You’ll only truly understand the experience if you watch it in a theatre.”
‘Maharaja Hostel’ team says the theatre response is different from social media
The actors also claimed that the feedback they have received from cinema audiences has been significantly more positive than what is being reflected online. They said, “Although there is a lot of negativity on social media, the response we’re getting directly from audiences in theatres has been overwhelmingly positive. That’s why we don’t understand why there’s so much negativity online. It’s honestly very upsetting.”
Cast speak about their journey into cinema
The cast explained that they approached their characters according to the director’s vision and acknowledged that they still have a lot to learn. They said, “We performed our roles exactly the way the director wanted us to. Since we come from making reels, we adapted our characters in that style. We’re grateful that so many people are supporting us. We’ve only just taken our first steps into cinema, and we need your encouragement. Please watch the film and share your personal opinion.”Ending their message, the cast urged moviegoers not to be influenced by campaigns asking people to avoid the film.“It is because of you that we got the opportunity to enter the film industry, and we hope you’ll continue to support us. There are campaigns asking people not to watch the film at all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but please watch the movie before expressing it. We’ll learn from our mistakes and come back stronger. We hope everyone will stand by us,” they concluded.‘Maharaja Hostel’ is directed by Charu Wakan and features Akhil NRD, Akhil Shah, Sharath Babu and Sajin Cherukayil in lead roles.
