By April 2026, two months after initial reports, it emerged that Amit Joshi, the director behind ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ (2024), had been roped in to direct ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’. This was soon followed by news of Raveena Tandon and Parineeti Chopra being added to the cast, and on August 11, reports confirmed Shilpa Shirodkar’s entry into the comic caper, marking her comeback to Bollywood after a 26-year absence. Two days later, on August 13, Elvish Yadav and Rajpal Yadav were reportedly finalised for the film, followed by news on August 14 of Fardeen Khan and Mahesh Manjrekar joining the ever-expanding cast. And now, there’s fresh buzz surrounding the much-talked-about project.
Esha Deol , Soniya Bansal sign ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’
According to Bollywood Hungama, Esha Deol and Soniya Bansal have signed ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’. Esha had made a mark in comic capers at one point. She was looking for an interesting script to get back into acting. She quite liked the overall script and her part and therefore, was too happy to come on board. Meanwhile, Soniya has made a mark with her appearance on season 17 of Bigg Boss. The makers approached her for an interesting role and Soniya is excited about it. Hence, she, too, readily signed on the dotted line.
‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ to go on floors in November 2026
‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is reportedlty slated to begin filming in November 2026, with a fresh storyline that doesn’t follow the original plot. However, it will hold on to the essence of the first film, a small-town setting where ordinary people, pushed by poverty and greed, get pulled into escalating chaos over the promise of sudden riches.
About the original ‘Malamaal Weekly’
Directed by Priyadarshan, the 2006 film ‘Malamaal Weekly’ featured an ensemble cast including the late Om Puri. Set against the backdrop of an impoverished village, the plot centres on the trio of Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, and Rajpal Yadav, who embark on a mission to cash in a Rs 10 crore lottery ticket after its rightful owner passes away.
