US Markets | The S&P 500 was little changed on Tuesday as investors weighed signs of progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz against uncertainty over a broader US-Iran resolution. The S&P 500 traded near the flatline, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 202 points, or 0.4%.
US-Iran war | The US and Iran are close to “some sort of arrangement” over the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Pakistani minister has said. Pakistan’s defence minister, Khawaja Asif, told reporters on Tuesday that “things are shaping up again in favour of a peace arrangement or a deal,” per Bloomberg News. “The signals in the last two to three days are that we are close to some sort of an arrangement,” he added, without providing further details.
CPI Inflation and Core CPI | The United States is set to release its July Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation and core CPI month-on-month data on Wednesday, August 12, at 6:00 PM IST. In June, headline CPI fell 0.4% month-on-month after rising 0.5% in May, while core CPI, which excludes food and energy, was unchanged month-on-month after increasing 0.2% in May.
Q1 Results | Several major companies are scheduled to announce their first-quarter FY27 results on Wednesday, including Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Grasim Industries Ltd, Tata Motors, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, GMR Airports, Lenskart Solutions, General Insurance Corporation of India, Abbott India, Gujarat Fluorochemicals, AIA Engineering, Aditya Infotech, Petronet LNG, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Astral, Sansera Engineering, Caplin Point Laboratories, Sun TV Network and Arvind.
Global Corporate Earnings | On Wednesday, E.ON SE, ABN Amro Bank N.V., Hannover Re, Sampo Oyj, Vestas Wind Systems, TKMS AG, Balfour Beatty, Bechtle AG, TUI Group, Tencent, Foxconn, Suncorp, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Pegatron, Quanta Computer, Galaxy Entertainment, WeRide, Cerebras, Nebius, Coherent, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Bank Leumi, Talabat and Sea Ltd are due to report earnings. ABN Amro Bank N.V. is scheduled at 2:00 PM IST, Sampo Oyj at 11:00 AM IST, TUI Group at 10:30 AM IST, Foxconn’s earnings call at 11:30 AM IST and Talabat CEO Toon Gyssels at 3:00 PM IST. CPI inflation data | India is set to release its July Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation data on Wednesday. Retail inflation rose to 4.38% in June 2026 from 3.93% in May, while food inflation increased to 5.32% from 4.78% during the same period.
OPEC, IEA to release August oil market reports | The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is scheduled to release its Monthly Oil Market Report in Vienna, Austria, on Wednesday, August 12. The International Energy Agency (IEA) will also release its August Monthly Oil Market Report.
