US Markets | US stocks rose on Monday as oil prices and Treasury yields eased, with Wall Street seeking to rebound after a mostly weaker week. The S&P 500 gained 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.9%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 153 points, or 0.3%.
Crude oil | Crude oil prices fell for the fourth consecutive session Monday. US West Texas Intermediate futures dropped 4% to $96.15 per barrel by 10:07 a.m. ET. Brent crude, the international benchmark, fell 3.3% to $100.47 a barrel. Prices have advanced more than 11% this month.
Bitcoin | Bitcoin surged nearly 5% on Monday to an eight-month high of $85,222, extending last week’s gains as renewed exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows and stronger appetite for risk assets supported the cryptocurrency’s rebound.
US-Iran war | A senior official with the Iran-backed Houthi rebels is warning countries against joining Saudi Arabia in Yemen’s revived civil war, saying that his group has assured the Trump administration that it won’t attack US vessels in the Red Sea. Mohamed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthis’ political bureau, said Washington reached out to the rebels after their rapid advance down Yemen’s western coast to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait earlier this month.
Index of Core Industries | The Index of Core Industries (ICI) grew 4.8% year-on-year in August 2026, easing slightly from the revised 5% growth recorded in July, according to provisional data from the Office of the Economic Adviser. Five of the eight core sectors recorded growth in August, led by cement and electricity. Cement production rose 12.5%, while electricity output increased 11.6%. Iron ore production grew 5.5%, steel output was up 3.4% and refinery products rose 2.6%.
