US Stocks | US stocks fell on Monday as a jump in oil prices and Treasury yields weighed on equities at the start of the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 255 points, or 0.5%, while the S&P 500 declined 0.6%. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.9%.

Crude oil | Brent crude climbed more than 2% to $106.79 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures rose around 2% to $94.40, after US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposed conditions for a ceasefire.

Treasury yields | US Treasury yields extended their sharp rise from last week, with the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield moving above 5.2% and the 30-year Treasury yield climbing past 5.5%. Both yields traded near multiyear highs.

US-Iran war | US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, as Tehran maintained that diplomacy remains the only way to resolve the conflict between the two countries. Trump said on Saturday that Iran was seeking an immediate agreement to reopen the key maritime route because it was facing heavy losses. While he said he was open to reaching a deal with Tehran, Trump said the conditions put forward by Iran were not acceptable.

Tata Sons | Tata Trusts, which holds a 66% stake in Tata Sons, has proposed merging Tata Electronics Systems Solutions Private Ltd (TESS) and Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) with Tata Sons as part of a strategic reorganisation aimed at taking the company outside the regulatory framework applicable to non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and core investment companies (CICs).

India factory output | India’s industrial output growth accelerated to 8% in August 2026 from 6.7% in July, marking one of its strongest growth rates in recent months, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Manufacturing, which carries the largest weight in the index, grew 9% year-on-year. The sector has now recorded growth of 8% or more for three consecutive months, according to the government. Electricity and gas supply emerged as another major driver, with output rising 12.3% from a year earlier. Water supply, sewerage and waste management also recorded healthy growth of 6.3%.

Mobile subscribers | Reliance Jio added 24.02 lakh mobile subscribers in August, the highest among telecom operators, taking its subscriber base to 508.43 million, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday (September 28). Bharti Airtel added 21.11 lakh subscribers during the month, while Vodafone Idea added 5.06 lakh and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 4.93 lakh. The total number of wireless mobile subscribers in India increased by 55.05 lakh in August, from 1,287.92 million at the end of July to 1,293.43 million at the end of August.
