Molbio Diagnostics IPO listing: Shares debut at 21% premium at ₹980


Shares of Molbio Diagnostics made their debut on the bourses on Monday, August 17, with the stock listing at a 21.44% premium to its issue price. The stock opened at ₹980 on both the NSE and BSE.

The stock was commanding a grey market premium (GMP) of ₹120 over the upper end of the IPO price band of ₹807. At this level, the implied listing price was around ₹927 per share, which represented a premium of 15% over the issue price.

The Temasek- and Motilal Oswal Group-backed company’s ₹940-crore IPO was subscribed 70.26 times by the close of bidding on August 12.

The issue received bids for 57.32 crore equity shares against 81.59 lakh shares on offer. Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) led the demand, with their portion subscribed 186.39 times. The non-institutional investor (NII) category was subscribed 49.80 times, while the retail portion was subscribed 12.96 times.

The IPO opened for subscription on August 10 and closed on August 12. Molbio Diagnostics had fixed the price band at ₹768-807 per share.

Molbio Diagnostics IPO anchor investors

Ahead of the public issue, Molbio Diagnostics raised ₹281.5 crore from anchor investors. According to the company’s exchange filing dated August 7, it allotted 34.87 lakh equity shares to 33 anchor investors.

Among global investors, Goldman Sachs invested ₹30 crore, while the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and BlackRock Global Funds invested ₹20 crore each.

Molbio Diagnostics IPO details

At the upper end of the price band, the IPO is valued at around ₹940 crore. The issue comprises a fresh issue of shares worth ₹200 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of 91.66 lakh shares by existing shareholders.

The OFS includes shares being sold by promoters Exxora Trading and Dr Chandrasekhar Bhaskaran Nair, investor India Business Excellence Fund and seven other shareholders.

Molbio Diagnostics plans to use ₹105.5 crore from the fresh issue to establish a research and development facility and Centre of Excellence through its subsidiary Bigtec. The funds will also be used for office infrastructure for the company, its subsidiaries and associate entities.

Another ₹72.2 crore has been earmarked for purchasing plant, machinery and equipment for the company’s manufacturing facilities in Goa and Visakhapatnam. The remaining proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes.

Following the issue, the promoters’ stake will dilute from the current 46.65%. The remaining 53.35% is held by investors, including Temasek Holdings-backed V Sciences Investments and Motilal Oswal Group’s India Business Excellence Fund.
