‘My mom thinks I’ll be strict’: Tamannaah Bhatia imagines a different parenting style, reveals why her mother expects her to be strict

Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has shared a glimpse into an interesting conversation she has had with her mother about motherhood and the kind of parent she might become in the future. While promoting her film The Vvan, Tamannaah spoke to Filmygyan about her mother’s prediction that she would become a strict mother. The actor, however, does not agree with that assessment and believes she would take a much more relaxed approach if she ever has children. Her comments offered a light-hearted look at how parents can sometimes have a different understanding of their children’s personalities, especially when it comes to imagining them in a parenting role.

Parents, when your child refuses to greet relatives, do you make them say hello or respect their choice?

Tamannaah said her mother has already formed an opinion about how she would behave as a parent. “Meri mummy bolti hain ki agar jab mai mummy banungi to mai bahaut strict mummy banungi, yeh mei mummy ki soch hai [My mother thinks that I will be a strict mom],” Tamannaah said in an interview with Filmygyan. The actor explained that her mother’s view comes from the way she conducts herself in her own life. According to Tamannaah, her mother believes that because she is strict with herself, she could follow a similarly disciplined approach with her children.“Main nahin jaanti [I don’t know]. I think I’ll be a chill mother. But meri mummy ko lagta hai ki mai bahaut strict mummy banungi [My mother thinks that I will be a strict mom] because I am strict on myself,” she said. The difference in their opinions appears to come down to how Tamannaah separates being disciplined with herself from how she might behave with her children. While her mother expects her to be strict, Tamannaah imagines motherhood as a role where she would give her children more freedom and allow them to enjoy their childhood.

Tamannaah imagines being a relaxed parent

Tamannaah went on to describe the kind of mother she thinks she would be if she eventually has children. “If I have babies, I don’t think I will be strict with them. I’ll be like, ‘Maze karo, school nahin jana aaj, bunk maar do’ [Enjoy, don’t go to school today, skip your classes]. I would like to be that mother,” she said. Her comments were clearly framed as an imagined version of her future parenting style rather than a statement about an immediate plan to have children. For now, Tamannaah’s idea of motherhood appears to be quite different from the one her mother has envisioned for her. While her mother’s prediction is based on the actor’s disciplined personality, Tamannaah sees herself as someone who would encourage her children to have fun and not take every rule too seriously.

A mother-daughter perspective on parenting

The conversation also reflects the way mothers and daughters can develop different views of each other over time. A parent who has watched their child grow up may recognise qualities that the child does not necessarily associate with themselves. In Tamannaah’s case, her mother appears to see her self-discipline as an indication that she would naturally bring the same strictness into parenting. Tamannaah, meanwhile, believes she could behave differently with her own children. Her response also highlights the difference between personal discipline and parenting philosophy. Being demanding of oneself does not necessarily mean someone will have identical expectations of their children. For Tamannaah, the imagined version of motherhood is less about enforcing strict rules and more about giving children room to enjoy themselves. Whether that prediction eventually proves right remains something only the future will reveal.
