Netflix lays off 1,000 employees: Former staff flood LinkedIn with support, job offers and referrals

Netflix, the streaming platform giant, is cutting jobs by 6%. Co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos told employees in an email that about 1,000 people in the company’s global workforce will lose their jobs, according to a Wall Street Journal report. It’s the company’s biggest round of layoffs since 2022, and it comes as the world’s largest streaming service finds it harder to grow.Big companies often get described in numbers, such as headcounts, percentages, and share prices. But for the people affected, this is much more than a business story, as behind the numbers are colleagues, families, and plans that depend upon it.Social media platforms have been flooded with former Netflix employees weighing in with sympathetic posts for those who lost their jobs in this layoff.

Netflix cuts jobs by 6% of its global workforce

Netflix has announced one of its biggest rounds of job cuts in years. Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters announced the cuts in an internal email on October 14, 2026. Roughly 1,000 people, about 6% of the workforce, are affected, making it the largest staff reduction since 2022The job cuts are not spread evenly across a particular vertical; as per the announcement, most of them will be centered around the product, technology, legal, and human resources teams. In the memo, the leaders wrote, according to the Hollywood Reporter, “Decisions like these are never easy, and we don’t take them lightly.”

The layoffs follow months of worry about Netflix’s growth

Sarandos told a Bloomberg conference last month, “We’re not growing as fast as I want us to.” According to its latest quarterly earnings report, viewers watched more than 97 billion hours of content in the first half of 2026. That’s only about 2% more than the same period last year, which is a fairly small increase for a company of its size.
