NHAI launches digital Local Pass, MargMitra Help Centre on RajmargYatra app: Here's how the new features work

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out two new citizen-focused features on the RajmargYatra mobile app, the online Local Passes and the digitally enabled MargMitra Help Centre. The new digital features are designed to simplify National Highway travel by offering digital services that reduce paperwork and provide quicker access to commuter support.

The new initiatives, launched under the Government of India’s Digital India programme, are aimed at simplifying toll payments, improving access to highway-related services and offering faster grievance redressal through a single platform. The RajmargYatra mobile app is available for download on both Android and iOS devices.

Local Pass: What it is and how it works

The newly launched Local Pass allows eligible commuters to buy a monthly local toll pass directly through the RajmargYatra app without visiting a toll plaza. Residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the pass through the app, which offers unlimited travel through the selected toll plaza during the month.
To verify eligibility, the system securely integrates with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to fetch verified details including the user’s address, vehicle number and linked FASTag. A GIS-based location check further confirms eligibility, eliminating paperwork and making the process more transparent.

The service has initially been rolled out at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and will be expanded to more toll plazas across the country in the coming months.

MargMitra HELP CENTRE: An intelligent digital assistance platform

NHAI has also launched the MargMitra Help Centre, a digital assistance platform integrated into the RajmargYatra app. The feature serves as a single-window interface where users can type or speak their queries in any of the 22 Indian languages. It provides assistance on services such as FASTag recharge, KYC updates, refund status, Annual and Local Pass information and other frequently asked questions.

If an issue requires intervention, users can register complaints directly through the app. The system automatically forwards them to the relevant department, allows users to track complaint status in real time and even file an appeal if they are dissatisfied with the resolution.

In addition, MargMitra enables users to check FASTag blacklist status, view pending e-notices and report road safety issues such as stalled vehicles or encroachments on National Highways.
