Paytm adds split bills feature: How users can divide and settle group expenses

Paytm Q1 Results: Merchant GMV jumps 31% to ₹7.1 lakh crore; board defers bonus issue

Digital payments platform Paytm has introduced a split bill feature that allows users to track and settle shared expenses among friends, the company said on Wednesday (July 29).

The feature enables users to create groups and record expenses related to activities such as travel, meals, shopping, fuel and other shared plans. Users can divide expenses equally, by exact amounts, shares or percentage, according to Paytm.

The feature allows users to record payments made through Paytm UPI, other payment apps, cash or cards in a single expense group. Users can view pending balances, amounts to be paid or received, and send reminders through the app.

Dues can be settled through Paytm UPI, while payments made separately can also be marked as received, the company said.

The launch comes as digital payment platforms expand beyond transaction services and add features aimed at helping users manage everyday finances. Several payment apps have been adding tools such as spending summaries, transaction records and budgeting features to increase user engagement.

To use the feature, users can access the ‘Split Bills’ option under the ‘Pay Anyone’ section of the Paytm app, create a group, add expenses and assign payments among members. The company said the feature is available without entry limits or additional charges.

Paytm, operated by One97 Communications, has been expanding its payments ecosystem with features focused on consumer transactions and financial services distribution.
