For the second quarter, Samsung reported revenue of 171.5 trillion won, lower than the 172.65 trillion won expected. Operating profit stood at 89.5 trillion won, higher than the 88.13 trillion won expected.
Samsung’s operating profit was up 1,814% on a year-on-year basis. Both figures were in-line with the company’s projections released earlier this month.
Strong AI server demand was the key factor behind Samsung’s record-breaking memory earnings, which led to both DRAM and NAND sales being at all-time highs. It has also scaled up sales of the HBM4 and shipped the first HBM4E samples to major customers. The HBM4 is Samsung’s sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory designed to power advanced AI processors.
The company expects robust demand for memory centered on servers and continued AI capex for the second half of the year as well. Demand for DRAM, eSSDs and HMBs will also accelerate in the second half, Samsung added.
DRAM chips are now used in a wide range of electronic devices, ranging from smartphones to servers, while enterprise SSDs are high-performance storage devices designed to deliver data quickly, and are essential to AI Infra.
Samsung’s results come a day after its rival SK Hynix reported a 557% operating profit growth during the quarter, which turned out to be below expectations and led to the stock tanking as much as 20% before staging a small recovery towards the close.Samsung Electronics’ shares are back to trading with gains of around 2% but is seeing sharp swings between gains and losses after the results announcement. The stock is still up 65% so far for the year.
