Sandra Bullock stood by Bryan Randall through everything after he received his ALS diagnosis. Three years after his passing, the actress has been opening up about their life and how they navigated all the challenges, including taking care of their children. Recalling the time, Bullock candidly shared details about how her children handled the news and supported their father in their own way.

Randall was diagnosed with ALS around 2020, and while his family knew of the disease, he made everyone promise at the time to keep his diagnosis a secret for as long as they could. While appearing on the latest episode of the ‘Smartless’ podcast, the ‘Practical Magic 2’ star revealed that her children, Louis and Laila, were well aware of what was happening.She shared how they were “Oh, completely aware. Absolutely aware, because eventually, once there is a situation where you’re bedridden, we all have to go there. It was in my house, and I did my best to set up whatever I could, and I am lucky in that I had the means to pay for it.” She provided more context and commented on how her children observed everything and were “very astute.”“They could see. They have eyes. And they are very, very astute kids,” Bullock added. “Very astute because they not only see the physical change, [but] there’s a behaviour that changes in all of us,” she added. Bullock also shared that her children had comparatively different reactions to Randall’s diagnosis. She shared that two years before her partner passed away, her son, Louis, chose to disengage himself from the situation. She also revealed that she would openly talk about the situation with her children and how they wanted to do everything. “He saw it was a dynamic that wasn’t healthy for him to be around. So, he’s very evolved. He’s like, ‘You know what? I’m here for you.’ I didn’t want him to become the man of the family at that age. My job [was] to be both at that time.”As for her daughter, she shared that Laila did not have a problem spending time and meeting Randall until “about 6 months out,” when she told her mother honestly about the situation. Bullock added, “And then she says, ‘Can you please say no when they call me over to go visit?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely.’ And I said, ‘But if you do want to go visit, I will come with you, and I will be right there.’ And if you tap out, I am right there.’”The ‘Ocean’s 13’ actress shared that she respected her children’s wishes to stay away by using different parts of the house for everything.
