Sigma Advanced Systems bags ₹973 crore order for 155 mm artillery ammunition components

Sigma Advanced Systems Limited informed on Monday that it has secured an order worth $102.23 million (approximately ₹973 crore) from a NATO customer for the manufacture and supply of base bleed (BB) units for 155 mm artillery ammunition. The order is scheduled to be executed over 12 months.

The order expands the company’s capabilities across the 155 mm artillery ammunition manufacturing value chain, building on its existing capabilities in artillery shells and fuzes.

Base bleed units are specialised ammunition components designed to improve the aerodynamic performance of artillery projectiles and extend their effective range. Fitted at the rear of an artillery shell, these units generate a controlled flow of gas during flight to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Sigma said the order strengthens its position in the artillery ammunition manufacturing ecosystem and marks another step towards establishing in-house manufacturing capabilities across advanced 155 mm artillery ammunition components.

With capabilities spanning artillery shells, fuzes and base bleed units, the company aims to integrate key components of complete 155 mm artillery rounds. According to the company, this approach is expected to reduce dependence on external suppliers, strengthen supply-chain control and enhance its ability to offer integrated ammunition solutions.

The development also aligns with Sigma’s strategy of vertical integration and indigenous defence manufacturing under the government’s Make in India initiative. The company is seeking to expand its capabilities across complementary ammunition components to address domestic and international demand.

Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and executive director of Sigma Advanced Systems, said repeat orders from customers reflected the trust the company had earned through the execution of previous programmes.

He added that expanding capabilities across artillery shells, fuzes and base bleed units would strengthen Sigma’s position as a manufacturing partner for customers seeking integrated capabilities.

Shares of Sigma Advanced Systems rose 4.99% to ₹820.30 on October 26, gaining ₹39 during the session.
