Stock Market Holiday 2026: NSE, BSE closed today on account of Muharram

Stock markets in India are closed on Friday, June 26, on account of Muharram.

Trading on leading exchanges — National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain suspended on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will see a partial trading holiday on Friday. Trading in the commodities market will be shut in the morning session from 9 am to 5 pm and will restart in evening session from 5 pm, as per the holiday calendar available on the exchange.

The June 26 holiday comes just a month after the previous market holiday on May 28 for Bakri Id. The next market closure would now be a couple of months later on September 14, 2026 on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The stock exchanges have earmarked a total of 16 holidays in 2026, while four holidays — Mahashivratri, Eid-Ul-Fitre, Independence Day and Laxmi Pujan on Diwali — fall on the weekends and therefore do not require additional market holidays.

Of the 16 holidays, nine have passed and seven more remain during the rest of the year — Ganesh Chaturthi (September 14), Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Dussehra (October 20), Diwali (November 10), Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 24) and Christmas (November 25).

Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous session marginally higher at 24,056 and 77,100.47, respectively.
