US midterm election results 2026

American voters delivered a major setback to President Donald Trump in Tuesday’s midterm elections, handing the opposition Democratic Party control of Congress and flipping several key gubernatorial posts.

The Republican Party suffered defeats in traditional strongholds, including Texas, Georgia and Iowa, where Democrats won governors’ races. Republicans also faced losses in Senate contests across several states, including Texas, Maine, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kansas and Iowa.

The election results reflected voter dissatisfaction with Trump’s policies, including the war on Iran, which has contributed to rising living costs and higher diesel prices.
