The vessels will be constructed at the company’s shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2028. The contract was awarded following a competitive evaluation involving leading global shipyards.
The TRAnsverse 3200 tug has been jointly developed by naval architects Robert Allan Ltd. and Svitzer for complex harbour towage and escort operations. Equipped with a patented hydrodynamic hull design and omni-directional propulsion system, the vessels deliver an 80-tonne bollard pull while being up to 15% more fuel-efficient than conventional tugboats.
The vessels will also be biofuel-ready, compliant with IMO Tier III emission standards and equipped with FiFi1 firefighting capabilities, supporting lower emissions and enhanced safety in port operations.
Rear Admiral Vipin Kumar Saxena (Retd.), CEO of Swan Defence and Heavy Industries, said the contract underscores the company’s engineering capabilities in the high-specification shipbuilding segment.
He added that this is the company’s fourth consecutive export order, reflecting growing confidence among global customers in India’s shipbuilding capabilities.
Svitzer CEO Kasper Friis Nilaus said the partnership will help deliver more efficient, sustainable and safer harbour operations for customers worldwide. He added that the order also reflects the company’s continued commitment to India’s Maritime Vision 2030, Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.Headquartered in Copenhagen, Svitzer operates a fleet of more than 500 vessels globally. The order forms part of its long-term fleet renewal programme aimed at deploying next-generation, high-efficiency towage vessels across ports worldwide.
Shares of Swan Defence and Heavy Industries ended Wednesday’s session 1.4% higher at ₹2,564.90. The stock has gained more than 75% so far this year.
