TCS adds nearly 4,300 employees in Q2 as headcount hits five-quarter high

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) added 4,258 employees on a net basis in the September quarter, taking its total workforce to 598,056 in Q1 FY27, extending the recovery in employee numbers.

The IT services major’s workforce increased from 593,798 at the end of June, when it had added 9,279 employees on a net basis during Q1 FY27. The June-quarter addition had marked a sharp turnaround after the company added just 2,356 employees in the March quarter.

Meanwhile, the company’s last-twelve-month (LTM) attrition rate for IT services remained stable at 13.3%, improving from 13.6% in the previous quarter.

TCS said investments in learning and critical skills drove a 17% sequential increase in learning hours to 17.1 million during the quarter.

“We continue to build a future-ready workforce through upskilling our employees and hiring top talent,” Chief Human Resources Officer Sudeep Kunnumal said. “This quarter our employee base reached over 598,000, while attrition remained stable at 13.3%.”

The headcount recovery comes as TCS focuses on building capabilities in emerging areas, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). The company’s AI revenue crossed $3.1 billion, accounting for more than 10% of overall revenue.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director K Krithivasan said the company had seen broad-based growth across international markets and most industry segments, while highlighting transformation partnerships with Porsche and Best Buy.
