NEW DELHI: The Opposition on Sunday targeted the Maharashtra government over the firing incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area, alleging that the incident reflected a deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state.Shroff escaped unhurt after unidentified gunmen opened fire near Pushpa Park on Sunday evening. His driver and an autorickshaw driver sustained injuries in the incident, police said. The incident prompted sharp reactions from opposition leaders, who cited previous attacks and killings while questioning the government’s handling of public safety.Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut directly blamed CM Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio, for the state’s security situation. Referring to previous incidents involving Salman Khan, the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique and the killing of Shiv Sena worker Pradeep Purnekar, Raut said the latest shooting reflected a wider breakdown in law and order.“Devendra Fadnavis is the Home Minister of this state. He is also Chief Minister, but the responsibility for maintaining law and order lies with him,” Raut said.Calling the situation “jungle raj”, he demanded the government’s dismissal and the imposition of President’s Rule. He also urged the Supreme Court to examine the broader situation, alleging that shootings, murders, extortion and kidnappings had become matters of serious concern.NCP (SP)MP Supriya Sule also raised concerns over public safety in a post on X, calling on the state’s home minister to review the law-and-order situation.“Shootings are continuously surfacing across the state, and the situation is such that criminals no longer fear the law,” Sule wrote. She added, “In broad daylight, on busy streets, criminals are brandishing swords and firing shots. This picture of the law and order situation in Maharashtra is extremely alarming.” Sule said citizens were increasingly anxious about their safety and urged the government to take measures to reassure the public.Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal also accused the Mahayuti government of allowing ‘jungle raj’ in the state and demanded chief minister’s resignation on moral grounds. In a post on X, Sapkal questioned the safety of ordinary citizens, asking, “If an actor like Tiger Shroff can be shot at in broad daylight in a metropolis like Mumbai, then who will guarantee the safety of ordinary citizens?”“Law and order in the state has completely broken down. Criminals no longer fear the law, and the Chief Minister’s control over the police administration has ceased to exist”, he said in a post on X.Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against three unidentified persons under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.The Mumbai Police formed 15 teams to investigate the incident. Three men accused of involvement in the firing were arrested in Kota, Rajasthan earlier. Police are investigating the alleged roles of the accused and whether others were involved in planning or executing the attack.

CM Fadnavis earlier said those responsible would be traced and would not be spared. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff’s residence on Sunday night and assured the family of the government’s support.Shinde said, “Tiger suffered injuries to his left hand caused by gunpowder and glass fragments… Both the actor and his mother, Ayesha Shroff, were deeply shaken by the incident. Strict action will be taken, and threats against public figures will not be tolerated.”Investigators are also examining whether the shooting was planned after surveillance of Shroff’s movements.
