Sunil Lahri, who played Lakshman in the popular TV serial ‘Ramayan’, has given his blessings to Ravie Dubey in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’. On the day of the film’s release, he posted on X to wish the team well, keeping away from any controversy.
Sunil Lahri shares a fan-made reel
Lahri shared a fan-made reel that places his Lakshman next to Dubey’s. His portrayal carries the tag ‘No VFX, no reference’, while Dubey’s is described as ‘Latest technology and many references.’He wrote, “The innocence and intensity should be reflected in the character of Laxman is visible in new Ramayana. Hearty wishes for the success of the new Ramayana.”
Earlier remarks on the music
Before this, Sunil Lahri had posted on X criticising the film’s music. He has not watched the film yet, but he believes Tiwari and his team have made a ‘good’ film.On the music, he said, “Mujhe vishwas hai… Nitesh ji ek bohot hi acche director hai; pehle unhone achhi filmein banayi hai. Sangeet bohot ehem bhoomika nibhata hai; ek hisaab se woh backbone hota hai. Iss film ke jo bhi sangeet maine sunna hai, usmein kuch gaanon ne mujhe thoda sa disappoint kiya.”He explained that the songs should have captured the local flavour of Ayodhya and Mithila, which he found ‘missing’. He added that he is not an authority on music and was sharing his view only as a listener.
Music draws wider criticism
The music and background score are by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, who have teamed up for the first time. Lahri is not the only one to raise concerns, as the music has been criticised on and off social media. Most recently, the song ‘Mangal Rang’ faced backlash for its perceived Sufi-Islamic Qawwali influences.
Release plan
The film is being released in two parts. The first part has arrived in theatres today, ahead of Diwali, while the second is slated for Diwali 2028.
