United Breweries to invest ₹110 crore on new canning line to boost beer production in Maharashtra

United Breweries Q1 Results: Premium beer sales lift revenue, but war-led costs hit profit

United Breweries (UBL) will invest ₹110 crore to commission a new canning line at its Ellora Brewery in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, as the beer maker looks to expand manufacturing capacity and cater to growing demand for canned beer, the company said in an exchange filing on Tuesday, September 1.

The new line, located at the Waluj MIDC area, is expected to become operational in September 2026, subject to statutory approvals. It will be the first canning line at the Ellora brewery and will have a capacity to produce 40,000 cans an hour, UBL said.

The facility will initially manufacture cans of Kingfisher Strong, Kingfisher Premium, Bullet Strong and London Pilsner for the Maharashtra market.

UBL said the investment will increase packaging flexibility by adding canning capabilities to the brewery’s existing bottling infrastructure. The company expects this to help it respond to changing consumer preferences, including rising demand for cans, while improving utilisation of its existing packaging infrastructure.

The Ellora brewery currently has packaging capacity of up to 1.5 million cases per month, UBL said.

“Maharashtra is one of India’s most important beer markets, with significant headroom for category growth and premiumisation,” UBL Managing Director and CEO Vivek Gupta said. The company will continue to invest ahead of demand and strengthen its local manufacturing footprint, he added.

The investment comes after UBL commissioned a new canning line at its Nizam Brewery in Telangana in July 2026, as the company expands its canning and manufacturing capabilities across India.

Last week, it expanded Heineken Silver to Kerala, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, citing growing consumer demand for premium and international beer experiences.

The company said the strong response to Heineken Silver in existing markets reflects evolving consumer preferences. Heineken Silver is brewed using three natural ingredients, barley, hops and water, along with Heineken’s A-Yeast and a horizontal brewing process, UBL said.
