The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers by 50% to ₹12,000 from ₹8,000, while the amount paid to Anganwadi helpers has been raised to ₹6,000 from ₹4,000, according to a report by News18 Hindi.
The revised honorarium is effective from September 2026, with the increased amount scheduled to be paid from October, the report said.
The decision is expected to benefit around 2.91 lakh Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state.
The increase follows a government order issued in September 2026, after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the revision. Under the order, the state’s contribution to the monthly honorarium was increased by ₹4,000 for Anganwadi workers and ₹2,000 for helpers, taking their total monthly honorarium to ₹12,000 and ₹6,000, respectively, according to Newsonair.

The government said the revision was made in view of the workers’ increased responsibilities, including their role in early childhood care and education, nutrition services, the use of digital platforms and coordination with various departmental schemes.
News18 Hindi also reported that Anganwadi workers and their family members would be eligible for cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh.
