V-Mart Retail Q1 profit climbs 41% on strong revenue growth; Stock gives up gains


Shares of V-Mart Retail gave up gains on Friday, July 24, even as the company reported a strong June quarter performance, with net profit rising 40.5% year-on-year to ₹47.2 crore from ₹33.6 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, driven by healthy revenue growth and improved operating margins.

The retailer’s revenue from operations increased 23% to ₹1,088.8 crore from ₹885.2 crore a year ago. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 27.3% year-on-year to ₹160.6 crore from ₹126.2 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded to 14.8% from 14.3% in the year-ago period.

Profit before tax increased to ₹59.5 crore from ₹42.9 crore a year earlier. The company reported a current tax expense of ₹11.7 crore and a deferred tax charge of ₹0.6 crore during the quarter.

The retail trade business remained the primary revenue driver, contributing ₹1,083.5 crore during the quarter, while the digital marketplace segment generated revenue of ₹10.4 crore.

The retail trade segment reported a profit of ₹66.2 crore before unallocable expenses, whereas the digital marketplace business reduced its loss to ₹3.2 crore from ₹5.1 crore in the year-ago period.

Separately, the board approved the appointment of Suraj Rathor as Head of Finance with effect from July 24. Following his appointment, Rathor will also be designated as a Senior Management Personnel of the company.

Shares of the company jumped over 4% following the result announcement, reaching an intraday high of ₹792.30, but soon gave up all their gains and fell to ₹761.20, nearly flat as of 1.45 pm on Friday. The stock has gained about 9% so far this year, while losing nearly 6% over the last 12 months.
