Vodafone Idea to buy 26% in renewable energy unit for captive power utilisation


Vodafone Idea Ltd. on Wednesday, May 20, said it will invest ₹4.33 crore to acquire at least 26% stake in MTK Quantum Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. as part of its renewable energy procurement strategy for captive power consumption.

In an exchange filing, the telecom operator said it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and a Share Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of not less than 26% paid-up equity share capital in MTK Quantum Green Energy, a special purpose vehicle formed for owning and operating a captive power plant.

Vodafone Idea said the investment is aimed at complying with regulatory requirements for captive power plants under the Electricity Act, 2003, while also helping procure cost-effective renewable energy.

The company will invest ₹4.33 crore in MTK Quantum Green Energy through one or more tranches over the next six months. The acquisition will be completed through cash consideration.

MTK Quantum Green Energy was incorporated in October 2025 and is currently a subsidiary of Shree MTK Textiles Pvt. Ltd. The entity is in the process of setting up a captive solar power plant in Tamil Nadu and was formed to generate, transmit and distribute solar and wind power.

Vodafone Idea clarified that the acquisition does not qualify as a related-party transaction and that neither the promoter group nor group companies have any interest in the target entity.

Shares of Vodafone Idea ended Wednesday’s session at ₹13.56, up 0.3%. The stock has gained over 43% in the last one month and has delivered a return of 107% over the past year.
