57th GST Council meeting LIVE updates: The 57th GST Council meeting will be held on Thursday, October 8, in New Delhi, with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chairing the meeting.

The meeting will be taking place at the Summit Room of Bharat Mandapam. The Council is expected to discuss a range of issues relating to GST rates, compliance and other matters concerning taxpayers and businesses.

Tax experts have highlighted the need for reforms that could simplify compliance, reduce disputes and provide greater certainty to businesses.

IT-ITES industry body Nasscom has flagged two outstanding issues concerning services exports, the GST treatment of services supplied through overseas branches and R&D, engineering or testing carried out in India on prototypes provided by overseas customers.

Ashish Aggarwal, Vice President and Head of Public Policy, Nasscom, said the organisation is seeking clarity on the treatment of services supplied from India through overseas branches, arguing that the way a company structures its overseas presence should not by itself determine whether the service qualifies as an export.
