Govinda was among the biggest stars of the 1990s, enjoying immense popularity for his acting, comedy and dance performances. During an earlier interview, the actor looked back on an unusual incident involving one of his admirers, who reportedly joined his household staff simply to remain close to him.Sharing the memory, Govinda revealed that he repeatedly noticed a young woman standing outside his residence. Believing she was searching for work, he directed her to his mother, who looked after the household and managed domestic staff. Recalling the incident, Govinda told Bollywood Bubble, “She was from a well-off family. One day I saw her standing outside my house. I asked her, ‘Do you want a job? Ask my mother, she only looks after all the work at home’. My mother gave her the job of house help.”
Sunita Ahuja became suspicious
According to Govinda, the woman struggled with her household responsibilities but displayed a noticeable change in behaviour whenever the actor returned home. Her enthusiasm eventually caught the attention of his wife, Sunita Ahuja, who felt something was unusual. Sunita later decided to investigate the matter herself. She eventually learned that the woman belonged to a wealthy family and had taken up the job only because she was an ardent admirer of Govinda.Sharing the incident, Sunita said, “One day, she was talking over the phone. I snatched her phone. She was talking to her dad and I came to know that she comes from a big family and her father has eight cars. But since she was a huge fan of Govinda, she only wanted to be with him.”
Why the couple hid their marriage
Govinda and Sunita had chosen to keep their marriage private during the early years of the actor’s career. Sunita explained that they believed revealing the marriage too soon could have affected Govinda’s popularity with fans. She recalled, “At that time he was at peak of his career. At that time, it was like if a hero gets married, fan following kam ho jaati hai (fan following used to decline). So, I told him, ‘just sign as many films as you can for a year, till then, chup chaap se rahenge’. Main room mein chup kar baithti thi (we didn’t reveal anything. I used to hide in a room). But when our daughter was born, we revealed it on her first birthday.” The couple tied the knot in 1987 and later made their marriage public during the first birthday celebrations of their daughter, Tina Ahuja.
Govinda’s recent work
On the professional front, Govinda has largely stayed away from the big screen in recent years. His last major outing as a lead actor was the 2019 comedy-drama ‘Rangeela Raja’. Before that, he appeared in the 2018 comedy ‘FryDay’. Meanwhile, Sunita Ahuja is participated in ‘Lock Upp Season 2’, the show was premiered on July 27.
