The rally came after the US declared a national emergency over the security of its bulk-power system and moved to restrict the acquisition and import of certain foreign-produced power-grid equipment.
The executive order signed by US President Donald Trump targets foreign-produced equipment and associated software that could pose national security, cybersecurity or operational risks to the US power grid.
The order covers a wide range of equipment, including substation transformers, grid-connected inverters, battery energy storage systems, generators, turbines, high-voltage circuit breakers and industrial control systems.
The US Energy Secretary has been tasked with identifying specific equipment and vendors that could pose such risks, meaning details on the exact products and companies covered by the restrictions are still awaited.
Analysts believe the move is primarily aimed at curbing China’s presence in the US power-grid equipment supply chain, and could benefit Indian companies that are looking to increase their exports to the US.
According to analysts, the measures could cover a broad range of equipment spanning transformers, generators, battery energy storage systems, grid-connected inverters and turbines, along with associated software and digital capabilities. The development could be positive for Indian power-equipment manufacturers with potential or existing US exposure, as restrictions on Chinese suppliers could reduce competition for Indian exporters.
Analysts believe GE Vernova T&D India, Hitachi Energy India, CG Power, TD Power Systems and APAR Industries could benefit from the development, particularly as Indian companies expand their presence in the US market.
