Tuesday, May 19, will also be the day when the company declares its results for the March quarter.
Zydus Life Buyback History
This will be the third time in four years that Zydus Lifesciences will be carrying out a buyback of its equity shares. It had done so twice previously, in 2022 and in 2024.
Back in 2022, the company had executed a ₹750 crore share buyback, repurchasing 1.15 crore equity shares, or 1.13% of the total paid-up equity capital at ₹650 apiece. The buyback was executed between June 23 and July 6, 2022.
In 2024, Zydus Life announced a smaller buyback worth ₹600 crore, repurchasing 59.7 lakh equity shares at a price of ₹1,005 per share. The buyback was executed between February 29 and March 6, 2024.
It must be noted that both the buybacks were executed via the tender offer route, meaning that the company repurchases the designated stock at a pre-determined price.
The promoter group of the company had participated in both the previous buybacks.
Previous Corporate Actions
Apart from the two share buybacks carried out between 2022 and 2024, Zydus Life also issued bonus shares to its shareholders back in 2010 in the ratio of 1:2.
Shareholders received 1 bonus share for every two shares they held as on the record date.
The company also carried out a stock split in 2015, when it split one share carrying a face value of ₹5 apiece, into five shares of face value of ₹1 each.
Current Shareholding
As per the March quarter shareholding pattern, promoters of the company have a 75% stake in Zydus Life.
Among public shareholders, Mutual Funds of India have a 4.88% stake, led mainly by PPFAS and Kotak MF, while Life Insurance Corporation of India has a 5.56% stake in the company.
Foreign Portfolio investors too, have a 6.95% stake in the company, leaving very little free float in the market.
As many as 4.01 lakh retail investors, or those with authorized share capital of up to ₹2 lakh, had a 4.8% stake in Zydus Life at the end of the March quarter.
Share Price Move
Shares of Zydus Life ended 1% higher on Wednesday at ₹940. The stock is up only 3% so far in 2026.
The stock trades above its 2022 buyback price. It also has crossed its 2024 buyback price of ₹1,005, reaching levels of ₹1,300 in August 2024, but has cooled off since then.
