The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has finalised the company’s AGR liability at ₹64,046 crore as of December 31, 2025—down from the earlier frozen estimate of ₹87,695 crore.
The revision follows directions from the Supreme Court of India, which had allowed the government to consider grievances raised by telecom operators on AGR calculations.
Just as important as the reduction is the timing of payments.
Vodafone Idea will not have to start repaying immediately. Instead:
- A minimum of ₹100 crore will be paid annually over four years starting FY32
- The remaining amount will be paid in six equal annual instalments from FY36 to FY41
This effectively pushes large repayments nearly a decade into the future, easing near-term cash flow stress for the debt-laden telecom operator.
The development is crucial for Vodafone Idea, which has been battling heavy dues, weak cash flows and intense competition from larger rivals.
While the reduction and deferral provide temporary relief, the overall liability remains substantial—meaning the company’s long-term financial challenges are far from over.
The disclosure was made to both National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited.
