Titagarh Rail Systems gets Indian Railways vendor status for 3-phase traction motors

Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd on Wednesday (August 19) said it has been included in the Approved Vendor category of Indian Railways for supplying 3-phase asynchronous traction motors of type 6FRA-6068 for 3-phase locomotives, with an approved capacity of 1,200 motors per year.

The approval is effective from August 19, 2026 and will allow Titagarh Rail Systems to participate in procurement opportunities for the specified traction motors, subject to applicable tender conditions, orders and supply requirements of Indian Railways.

The company said the approval is expected to strengthen its presence in the locomotive equipment segment and enable it to participate in procurement opportunities for the traction motors.

However, Titagarh Rail Systems said the financial impact of the development cannot be ascertained at this stage. It will depend on the orders received and the corresponding supply schedules.

The approval relates specifically to the supply of 3-phase asynchronous traction motor type 6FRA-6068 for 3-phase locomotives, with the company’s approved annual capacity set at 1,200 numbers.

In August this year, Titagarh Rail Systems said it expects its passenger rail business to become the dominant contributor to its revenue, accounting for around 60-70% of its overall business in the future, as the company expands its presence in Vande Bharat and metro projects, as per Umesh Chowdhary, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the company.

The shift is already visible in the company’s order book. Of its roughly ₹13,000 crore standalone order book, around ₹10,000 crore comes from passenger rail, while the company has more than 1,700 passenger coaches on order. Titagarh recorded a record dispatch of 30 passenger cars in the latest quarter and is targeting an initial run rate of 45-50 cars per quarter.

“Passenger is actually going to be in the future almost 60-70% of our overall business for TRSL,” Chowdhary said.

Titagarh Rail’s June quarter numbers also reflected an improvement in its operating performance. Total revenue rose 12.6% to ₹765.1 crore from ₹679.33 crore last year, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 26.3% to ₹94.9 crore from ₹75.13 crore. EBITDA margin expanded by 134 basis points to 12.40% from 11.06% in the year-ago period.
