Groww Block Deal: Stock down 3% after ₹2,500 crore worth equity changes hands

As many as 12.74 crore shares, or 2.1% equity of Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent company of Groww, worth ₹2,500 crore changed hands in block deals on Wednesday, August 26.

The official buyers and sellers are not yet known.

On Tuesday, CNBC-TV18 reported, citing sources that Ribbit Capital had launched a block deal to set a 1.6% stake in the Groww parent company Billionbrains Garage Ventures for ₹1,914 crore.

The shares were being offered at a floor price of ₹195 apiece, source said.

The transaction would allow Ribbit Capital to partially monetise its investment in Groww while continuing to retain its remaining holding in the firm.

As part of the terms, Ribbit Capital would be subject to a 30-day lock-up period post the transaction, sources said.

At the end of the June quarter, promoters held 27% stake in the company while public shareholders held the remaining 72% stake. Of this, Ribbit Capital held 5.64% stake, as per data available on the stock exchanges.

Groww reported its first quarter earnings last month. Its revenue was flat on a sequential basis at ₹1,501 crore from ₹1,505 crore, while its net profit increased 7% to ₹735 crore from ₹686 crore last year.

Its EBITDA stood at ₹970 crore, up 3.4% from the previous quarter’s ₹938 crore, while its EBITDA margins expanded to 64.6% from 62.3%.

Groww shares were trading 3.2% lower at ₹196.45 apiece at 10.15 am on Wednesday. The stock has declined 1l.5% in the past month but is up 26.5% this year, so far.
