Vedanta shares see buying after dividend announcement; check record date


Shares of Vedanta Ltd. rose as much as 4% on Friday, October 9, after the mining conglomerate announced its first interim dividend for the financial year 2026-27.

The company’s board approved an interim dividend of ₹5 per equity share at its meeting on Thursday, October 8, according to an exchange filing. Vedanta has fixed Wednesday, October 14, as the record date to determine shareholders eligible for the payout.

The dividend entails a total outgo of ₹1,955 crore and marks Vedanta’s first shareholder distribution since the group’s demerger into four separate entities in June 2026.

Vedanta has maintained a consistent dividend payout history over the years. In FY26, the company distributed a total of ₹34 per share through three interim dividends announced in June 2025, August 2025 and March 2026.

Since February 2023, the company has paid dividends totalling ₹140 per share, based on its historical payout record. Exchange data show that Vedanta has announced dividends every year since 2007. Its highest-ever interim dividend was ₹31.50 per share, declared in May 2022.

The company also issued bonus shares in a 1:1 ratio in 2008.

At the end of the June 2026 quarter, promoters held a 54.72% stake in Vedanta. Among public shareholders, mutual funds held 4.6%, while Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) held 4.55%.

Retail investors, defined as shareholders holding nominal share capital of up to ₹2 lakh, owned 13.69% of the company, with approximately 25.4 lakh retail shareholders at the end of the quarter.

Vedanta shares were trading at ₹255.30 on Friday, down 2.3% from the previous close, despite having risen as much as 4% during the session. The stock has declined around 58% so far in 2026 and 46% over the past 12 months.
