NMDC April iron ore output rises 16% YoY; sales inch up amid mixed regional trends

NMDC Limited reported a year-on-year increase in iron ore production for April 2026, while sales saw marginal growth, based on provisional data released by the company.

Total production rose 16% to 4.64 million tonnes (MT) in April 2026, compared with 4.00 MT in April 2025. Sales increased about 1.4% year-on-year to 3.68 MT from 3.63 MT.

Regionally, Chhattisgarh remained the key driver of growth. Production in the state climbed to 3.66 MT from 2.85 MT a year ago, while sales rose to 3.16 MT from 2.82 MT.

In contrast, Karnataka operations declined during the month. Production fell to 0.98 MT from 1.15 MT, and sales dropped to 0.52 MT from 0.81 MT in the corresponding period last year.

The data indicates that higher output in Chhattisgarh offset the decline in Karnataka, supporting overall production growth. However, sales growth remained subdued relative to production, suggesting a buildup in inventory or timing differences in dispatches.

The company disclosed the provisional figures in a regulatory filing under SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) norms and said the data is also available on its website.
