Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate appeared in a federal courtroom in Miami on Monday as extradition proceedings to the United Kingdom formally began over a fresh set of criminal charges, including rape and sex trafficking.According to the BBC, the brothers were brought before the court after being arrested in Florida on Saturday following a request linked to new charges announced by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).The Tate brothers, who have repeatedly denied all allegations against them, have been held in a Florida jail since their arrest.
Brothers appear in shackles at Miami court
During the brief hearing, Andrew and Tristan Tate appeared wearing light brown prison uniforms. They were handcuffed and shackled at the waist and ankles.The brothers spoke only once during the proceedings, responding in unison “Yes, your honour” when the judge asked whether they understood their rights.Their attorney, Joe McBride, later told reporters that the brothers would contest the extradition request.“They’ve never done nothing wrong. They shouldn’t be extradited for crimes they didn’t commit,” McBride said.He went on to describe the case as “garbage” and “a stitch up job.”Comparing the proceedings to the legal cases involving US President Donald Trump, McBride alleged the extradition attempt amounted to “political kidnapping” and called it a “witch hunt.”
Next hearing scheduled for July 27
According to the Associated Press, the judge scheduled the brothers’ next court appearance for July 27.McBride estimated that the extradition process could take around 60 days, although any final decision on whether the brothers are sent to the UK would ultimately rest with the Trump administration.
38 new charges announced in the UK
The latest case stems from 38 new criminal charges announced by the Crown Prosecution Service in England and Wales.According to CPS Special Crime Division head Malcolm McHaffie, the charges followed the receipt of additional evidence from Bedfordshire Police.The alleged offences are said to have taken place between July 2010 and August 2017 and increase the total number of alleged victims in the UK case to seven.Police said the brothers now face 59 charges in total.
Legal troubles continue in Romania
The UK case comes as Andrew and Tristan Tate continue to face separate criminal proceedings in Romania, where prosecutors have accused them of human trafficking, forming an organised criminal group to sexually exploit women and, in Andrew Tate’s case, rape.The brothers deny all allegations.The dual British-American citizens relocated to the United States in 2025 after Romanian authorities lifted a travel ban imposed during the investigation. Despite being allowed to travel, they remain legally required to report to Romanian authorities as that case continues.
Separate civil case in the US
In addition to the criminal investigations in the UK and Romania, the Tate brothers are also facing a civil lawsuit in the United States.A woman has alleged that the brothers coerced her into sex work before later defaming her after she cooperated with Romanian investigators.

Andrew Tate rose to prominence on social media through videos showcasing luxury cars, expensive lifestyles and what he described as hyper-masculinity. The former kickboxer has repeatedly drawn criticism for controversial remarks about women and has described himself as a “misogynist.”He was previously banned from several major social media platforms after making comments suggesting women should “bear responsibility” for being sexually assaulted.
