The holiday schedule applies to all public and private sector banks, including major lenders such as the State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and others.
The total of 9 holidays includes the second and fourth Saturdays, along with holidays for festivals and regional events. Not all holidays, however, will be observed across India. Several holidays are limited to specific states and cities.
RBI bank holiday list for August 2026August 4 (Tuesday): Banks closed in Agartala for Ker Puja.
August 8 (Saturday): Banks closed across India for the second Saturday. Banks in Gangtok will also remain closed for Tendong Lho Rum Faat.
August 13 (Thursday): Banks closed in Imphal for Patriot’s Day.

August 19 (Wednesday): Banks closed in Agartala for the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.

August 25 (Tuesday): Banks closed in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada for Milad-Un-Nabi/First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif.
August 26 (Wednesday): Banks closed in several cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Patna, Lucknow, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar for Id-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi/Thiruvonam.
August 28 (Friday): Banks closed in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Jammu, Srinagar, Bhopal, Dehradun, Gangtok, Kanpur and Shimla for Raksha Bandhan, Pang-Lhabsol, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi and Ayyankali Jayanthi.
Bank holidays are decided under the Negotiable Instruments Act, along with state government notifications and RBI guidelines. While bank branches will remain closed on these dates, online banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs, and other digital banking services will continue to work as usual.
