The current maturity date falls in the year when the next Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held.
Under the scheme, eligible women are entitled to financial assistance of ₹2,500 a month. Of this, ₹1,500 is to be credited to a recurring deposit account, while ₹1,000 is transferred through a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet linked to the beneficiary’s bank account.
Beneficiaries can also choose to have the entire ₹2,500 deposited into an RD through the designated banking partner. The deposit earns interest at the prevailing rate.
Who can get the benefit
The scheme is aimed at women aged 21 to 60 from eligible households in Delhi. The applicant must be the eldest female member of the family, and only one woman from a household can receive the benefit.
The annual family income must not exceed ₹2.5 lakh. The applicant, her husband or her parents must have been residents of Delhi for at least 10 years, and the applicant must be a registered voter in Delhi.
Income-tax payers, GST filers and government employees are excluded. Households with annual electricity consumption above 2,400 units or those owning a four-wheeler are also outside the eligibility criteria.
Aadhaar not mandatory for registration
Women who do not yet have an Aadhaar number can still register by submitting an Aadhaar enrolment slip, where available, along with an alternative identity document. The documents listed include a PAN card, ration card, voter ID, passport and driving licence.
The Women and Child Development Department will facilitate Aadhaar enrolment for eligible beneficiaries who have not yet obtained the 12-digit identity number through its district offices.
The Delhi government formally launched the scheme in August, with the first monthly disbursements scheduled from September 1. The scheme is intended to cover up to 17 lakh eligible women in the capital.
