Digital gold to EMI: How jewellery firms are offering more ways to pay

The jewellery industry is offering customers different ways to fund and plan jewellery purchases, with recent offerings including the use of digital gold, monthly gold accumulation, old-gold exchange and EMI options.

Paytm has partnered with CaratLane to allow customers to use their accumulated Paytm Digital Gold towards purchases of CaratLane jewellery. Any balance amount can be paid separately through other available payment options.

Customers can purchase CaratLane jewellery across categories such as rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, bangles and bracelets through Paytm. Other payment options include Paytm UPI, credit and debit cards and net banking.

The partnership also connects Paytm’s digital gold holdings with jewellery purchases. CaratLane will handle packaging, fulfilment and home delivery across its serviceable pin codes, while order confirmation, tracking and purchase details will be available on Paytm.

Separately, Zen Diamond India has introduced its My Gold Multiplier Plan, under which customers can accumulate 999 fine hallmarked gold through monthly contributions.

According to Neil Sonawala, Managing Director, Zen Diamond India, customers can redeem the accumulated gold for jewellery at maturity and receive additional rewards of up to 30% in gold. The plan also provides early and late redemption benefits. Its 2X Multiplier feature allows customers to add their own 24-karat gold at the time of redemption.

Zen Diamond also offers an Exchange Old Gold programme. The company said eligible old gold, as well as old diamond or gemstone jewellery from any brand, can be exchanged for new jewellery, with an additional ₹2,400 per gram over the prevailing market value.

Another option is the company’s InstaOwn EMI programme, which Zen Diamond describes as a zero-cost, zero-down-payment and zero-interest EMI option.

The company also said customers earn a 1-gram gold coin for every ₹90,000 spent at its stores.

The two developments cover different purchase mechanisms: Paytm and CaratLane allow digital gold to be used towards jewellery purchases, while Zen Diamond’s offering includes monthly gold accumulation, old-gold exchange and EMI-based purchases.
