Edelweiss Financial Services sells 45% Nido Home Finance stake to Carlyle for ₹600 crore

Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd on Friday (September 25) announced the completion of Carlyle’s investment of over ₹2,000 crore in Nido Home Finance Ltd, giving the global investment firm’s affiliated funds a strategic majority stake in the housing finance company.

The investment funds affiliated with Carlyle Asia Partners (CAP), part of The Carlyle Group, have invested approximately ₹2,000 crore, or about $215 million, in Nido through a combination of primary capital infusion and secondary purchase.

The primary capital infusion is approximately ₹1,450 crore, of which around ₹725 crore has been received. The balance is to be received within 18 months. Following the primary infusion, Nido’s net worth is set to nearly triple to approximately ₹2,300 crore within 18 months.

Carlyle has also completed the secondary purchase of a 45% stake in Nido from Edelweiss for approximately ₹600 crore. Edelweiss will hold approximately 26% of Nido on a fully diluted basis at the end of 18 months.

Edelweiss will also receive a share of the upside if Carlyle realises returns above a specified threshold. The transaction was announced on February 10, 2026, and has been completed following receipt of the requisite regulatory and statutory approvals.

Nido, established in 2010, is a housing finance company offering home loan solutions across the affordable housing and mid-ticket market segments. Its branch network serves more than 800 talukas, or sub-districts, and it had assets under management of ₹4,900 crore as of the quarter ended June 2026.

For Edelweiss, the transaction provides Nido with fresh growth capital, while allowing Edelweiss to monetise part of its stake and reduce debt. Nido will also have access to Carlyle’s operating expertise.

The company said the primary equity infusion is expected to strengthen Nido’s financial foundation and position it to serve affordable and mid-ticket housing segments across rural, semi-urban and emerging markets.

Edelweiss operates seven independent businesses spanning alternative asset management, mutual funds, asset reconstruction, non-banking finance, housing finance, general insurance and life insurance. It employs more than 6,000 people, serves around 1.4 crore customers and manages around ₹2,80,000 crore of assets.
